Admin Work and An Auction
I started a new painting yesterday. This is the first time I’ve picked up a brush since I finished Elvis two weeks ago. That was the plan, to finish Elvis and then get on with preparing for the show in September. This meant framing the work, then scrutinizing it as I decided which pieces most suited the theme of what I had in mind for the show. Next came designing the banner and announcement card while obsessing over which bird and font to use. Add to this a press release, a tear-sheet, and updating my CV and profiles on various on-line art sites and so on. Everything time-sensitive is done now and I’ve moved on to contacting clients, two of whom have bought pieces ahead of the show, and reaching out to followers on Instagram. Once the announcement cards are here, I will be busy stamping and addressing those.
But first I need the relief of painting and even cleaning the brushes afterwards. The compulsion is strong, especially as my monkey mind whirs along with the business side of things. I am not alone in this. One blessing of living in Provincetown is the abundance of artists in our community. There is always somebody happy to discuss art practices and exchange ideas.
The image at the top of this post is of Nevermore, a collage which incorporates a print of one of my crow paintings, in the Provincetown Art Association Museum’s 12”x12” Silent Benefit Auction. Bidding is now open. If you’re interested, Nevermore is #274 at: https://e.givesmart.com/events/DW6/i/
