Last week I wrote about Pacino, my parrot who died three years ago and how he chose me when he climbed up my arm to sit on my shoulder at a pet store. I also mentioned I was thinking of doing a black-winged kite to add to the Birds on Paper series for my upcoming show. Since then, I’ve done both. Yesterday, I started a pink cockatoo that I believe will be the last of these paintings on paper for now. That blue heron I spoke about will be the first in a new series as I return to working on wood panels. As often as I am told the birds on paper are otherworldly, they don’t have the aura of medieval icons that the earlier work on wood panels did. The difference with these new pieces on wood will be the size. The previous paintings were small, often quite small, and even the smallest ones on paper are larger than the largest of the early ones on wood.
In the meantime, I’m cutting back on how frequently I post to social media, although I’ll still do Stories on Instagram as that’s the only way to reach some of my followers, and the monthly email from my website. If you subscribe to me here on Substack, I’m happy to remove you from that email list unless you want to stay. I will continue to repost my Substack posts to Facebook because I always have many more viewers than I have subscribers and I think that’s where they find me. Ideally, I can get everybody to join me on Substack, but that might take a while.
These are lovely
