It’s a beautiful, not too hot but not cool afternoon here in Provincetown. I have been spending several hours a day at The Commons since the show went up to chat with people who wander in. Generally they are other painters and we end up talking about technique. I just had a great conversation with a couple who really got that I don’t see them as birds but more as mythical and godlike creatures. At the opening the other evening, I watched people I didn’t know and who were there for another show in the building pull out reading glasses for a better, more detailed look. There were even a few gasps, which was one of my goals, to hear a few gasps; those are the things that make all the work building up to the opening worth while.
I did send out the link for the Commons’ email blast individually, but here it is again for those who missed it. https://www.provincetowncommons.org/campaigns/view-campaign/7bUfBccVfrxKuuNe9nOK8mXmA7HM9FC19vaUbVJU9C3Voc5vNu_AIpBB4LOKeaWsarPKFjTg7TD0Q7vaNuKcY6D-sWVDNDI
There’s also a shaky little video I posted on Instagram, but for some reason I can’t post it anywhere else. In the meantime, I’m headed to Newcastle Upon Tyne again at the end of the month, and I have the bird sales to thank for the tickets. Still not first-class, but airline tickets nonetheless.
Onward, as my friend Kevin Sessums likes to say - I’m saying it a lot myself lately.
