Ta Da! The toucan, Tosca, done and dusted. I’m very happy with her and I’ll probably use the painting on the banner and card I make for the show in September. I thought I might be finished with the works on paper but I’m already doing another one this size of my parrot Pacino because Facebook reminded me on Monday that he died three years ago. He was 26 at the time and had been with me since he was a fledgling. He, in fact, picked me actually. I’d gone into a pet store in Tribeca to get seeds for Dante, my cockatiel, and while I was watching some baby birds play together, Pacino came over, climbed up my arm and sat on my shoulder. The pet store manager said she hadn’t seen him do that before, and proceeded to give me a big discount on his price. It took me a week to take the deal, but she knew it was only a matter of time.
But I digress, let’s get back to what I’m working on for the show. Besides Pacino, and the blue heron I keep talking about, I’m now also planning to do a Black Shouldered Kite, because they are too beautiful to not paint one. However, this will definitely be too many pieces for the gallery space if I include everything. I don’t have to hang all of it, I can keep some aside to fill spots if clients insist on taking their purchases with them during the show, which would spare me the ordeal of having to pack and ship the pieces later, but perhaps it’s time to thin out the flock. The work I’ve done since my return from the UK is so much stronger than the work I was doing six or seven months ago, although I still like the earlier work as well. So yes, maybe a pre-show sale is in order. Especially of the earlier, smaller pieces, I’ll even toss in their frames. Check out the Birds On Paper section at www.maureenmccarron.com or better yet, the Birds On Wood Panels. Those I can give you a great price on, let’s make a deal.
