Yes, I’m headed to Newcastle again, this time for twelve days instead of seven. We’re planning a day trip to Edinburgh since it’s so close, and another to Tynemouth to see their craft fair in full swing at the Victorian-era train station with its wrought iron and glass ceiling. Hopefully, my friend who lives in Amsterdam now can meet me at the airport there during my four hour layover. Haven’t seen her in person in probably 20 years. I went through Amsterdam the last trip too, and was stunned to see that at 5AM, the high-end jewelry shops were open.
The last trip was a getting to know you in the flesh visit with what has been primarily an online relationship. This time, reconnaissance. As in, could I live there? What’s the art scene like, would my birds fit in, et cetera. Because, even though I have loved my lonely little life in Provincetown and have a presence as an artist, I don’t feel like I fit in art-wise. It would be easy to stay, but perhaps it’s time to broaden my horizons?
The Commons show came down a week ago and has been packed away but before I had time to process it, I had to catch up on paperwork and do a mountain of laundry. Above, is a shot of the Commons’ vestibule. That’s Ariel, which sold, along with the usual cards and comments book, as well as postcards by Rowena Perkins who also had a show up there. We shared the banner too, it’s different work but simpatico.
Okay, back to figuring out what to pack since I leave on Tuesday. I’ve been wearing my new rain boots around the house to break them in while steaming and combing the fuzz off a nice, neat stack of cashmere sweaters. Will four silk scarves be enough? Do I need that skirt or will jeans, leggings and the tank top dress to wear with those sweaters be plenty? I will try to post while I’m away but right now, it is time for another load of laundry.
